December 6, 2016- Commonwealth v. Eugene Wheeler: On the eve of trial, on December 6, 2016, Eugene Wheeler, 49 of Lewistown, pleaded guilty to Robbery and Access Device Fraud charges that stemmed from an incident at Giant Foods on Linglestown Road, Susquehanna Township. On January 1, 2016, Wheeler entered the store around 4p.m. and encountered the female victim, who was shopping for groceries. The Commonwealth alleged that Wheeler approached the 51 year old victim, struck her in the face and grabbed her purse before fleeing to Lewistown. Detectives Cairns and Osman from the Susquehanna Township Police Department tracked Wheeler down and located the jeep that was used as well as the jacket Wheeler had worn. Wheeler confessed to the detectives after being confronted with the photograph evidence. Wheeler’s sentencing was deferred to February 8, 2017 before Common Pleas Judge Scott A. Evans. The case is being prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney Stephen R. Zawisky.
