Allegheny Township, PA -- Allegheny Township Police, in cooperation with the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office, charged an Apollo woman with theft and other related charges.
Tanya Palmer, 50, worked at Pleasant Ridge Mature Living Facility in Allegheny Township as the resident director where the theft allegedly occurred from 2022 until it was reported in October of 2024.
The facility was purchased by new owners who reported the allegation to police.
They believed Palmer was pocketing money from an 81-year-old resident and believed she was hiding the resident in the facility to prevent the collection of rent.
Allegheny Township Police said the man was served an eviction notice in 2022, but the previous owner was unaware the man was still living in the facility.
The resident told investigators he provided his debit card information and PIN to Palmer on occasion when she purchased him cigarettes or alcohol upon request.
Police obtained bank records for the resident which showed several unauthorized cash withdraws from his bank.
Officers obtained surveillance video from the bank and confirmed the multiple ATM withdraws were made by Palmer.
The new owners of the facility also relayed to police that she believes a second victim could have been taken advantage for Palmer's financial gain.
Police discovered that a second resident allegedly gave Palmer a blank check because she claimed he was behind in rent.
A check worth $4,400 was turned in with the owner's name redacted from the check. After the check was deposited, she was notified the check was being returned.
Police determined that between 2022 to 2024, Palmer is accused of taking approximately $59,656 from the victim.
Palmer is also accused of preventing the collection of rent for Pleasant Ridge Mature Living in the amount of $49,280.
Palmer is charged with theft, theft by deception, financial exploitation of an older adult or care dependent person, receiving stolen property, unauthorized use of an access device, and forgery.
