Our department is seeing an increase in parking tickets issued, and we want to help prevent future infractions by clarifying some common parking ordinance violations.

One recurring issue is the blocking of garages, driveways, and curb ramps. You cannot park your vehicle in a way that obstructs access to these areas, even if it’s your own garage or driveway.

Another commonly misunderstood violation involves these required distances for parking near intersections, signs, and crosswalks:

• No vehicle shall be parked within 15 feet from any fire hydrant.
• No vehicle shall be parked within 20 feet from any crosswalk at a street intersection.
• No vehicle shall be parked within 30 feet upon the approach to any flashing signal, stop sign, yield sign or traffic-control signal located at the side of a roadway.

Any vehicle unlawfully parked in the circumstances stated above may be subject to towing and reclaimed by the owner upon payment of towing costs.
