Back to school, back to school… With the First Day of School for East Pennsboro Area School District being August 21st, please be extra aware and cautious of school buses picking up and dropping off students throughout the day.
As a reminder, in Pennsylvania, it is illegal to overtake a school bus when it’s red lights are flashing, and the stop signal arm is extended. This applies when the bus is in the same lane or on the opposite side of the road. Driver’s must stop at least 10 feet before the bus and remain stopped until the red flashing lights and signal arm are no longer activated. A driver stopped at an intersection at which a school bus is stopped, shall stop at the intersection until the flashing red signal lights are no longer actuated.
If an operator is cited and convicted of Overtaking a School Bus, they may face a fine of $250 and have their license suspended for 60 days. The violation also includes 5 points to their driving record.
The safety of our students and bus drivers is paramount to our Police Department and Community, please be patient and allow yourself a little extra time of travel during your morning commutes.
