The keeping of chickens within East Pennsboro Township is only permissible once a permit is approved by the Police Department.  

The permit needs to be approved PRIOR to you getting the chickens.   

Specific guidelines on coup placement are listed in Township Ordinance 800-2018.  

Some other highlights of the ordinance:

Maximum of 4 chickens   (if somehow one hatches a chick, that becomes 5)

Hens Only - No Roosters.   

Specific waste disposal requirements.  

Be courteous to your neighbors, if you are considering getting chickens, speak with them first, and let them know your intentions.   

Make certain you apply for the permit BEFORE you get the chickens.   Once you have them, they are not easy to give away.
