On Sunday evening, May 12, 2024 at 8:41pm officers attempted to stop a STOLEN Gray colored Kia Soul. This vehicle was reportedly stolen from the City of Easton.
The Suspect driver failed to stop and instead fled, leading officers on a pursuit through the Old Orchard section of Palmer Township.
During this pursuit, the suspect driving this stolen vehicle committed multiple traffic violations including crashing into a street light pole. With sustained heavy front end damages, the vehicle still continued to flee, nearly striking a police vehicle head-on. Officers successfully deployed Stop Sticks, deflating tires in an attempt to end this pursuit.
The stolen vehicle continued with deflated tires, and drove through residential yards, back out onto Freemansburg Avenue.
The suspect driver abandoned the stolen car in the parking lot of a Freemansburg Avenue business and fled on foot.
Officers searched but were unable to locate the suspect that evening.
Follow up investigation identified the suspect as Joshua EWELL, and it was determined that he had been picked up by another vehicle, and removed from the search area.
EWELL was taken into custody the next morning at 11:45am.
EWELL was arraigned on multiple charges and committed to Northampton County Prison.
