The Lancaster City Police are investigating three incidents of suspicious telephone calls made to local residents, where an unknown male subject called and portrayed himself as Lancaster City Chief of Police, Keith Sadler. These calls were reported to the Manheim Township Police and Lancaster City Police on June 2, 2016. The unknown male claimed to be "Chief Sadler, from the Lancaster City Police Department" and in one case, the male indicated that the person receiving the call needed to come to the police station to take care of a legal matter. The male caller also left voicemail messages saying that the recipients should call him back, but the caller was very vague and did not provide sufficient details about the purpose of the phone calls. The unknown male claimed in one call that the person had outstanding arrest warrants and in one call the male claimed that he was soliciting donations for a fundraiser. Fortunately, the residents became suspicous and did not provide any personal information over the phone and hung up on the caller. The unknown male caller was described as possible having a "Southern accent" and also sounded as though he was "disquising his voice", according to some of the residents.
None of these calls were made by Chief Sadler or by anyone else from the Lancaster City Bureau of Police. The Lancaster City Police would like to warn residents to be very cautious of potential scams such as this and to not provide any personal information over the telephone to anyone they do not know. If anyone receives a suspicious phone call like the ones described, police encourage you to hang up and report the incident to your local police department. If you aren't sure if a call from the police is legitimate or not, you are encouraged to call your local police department directly. The Lancaster City Police are investigating these calls and are attempting to determine their origin.
