An Akron Borough man facing four charges for trying to convince a juvenile to send him pornographic material waived his preliminary hearing Tuesday.
Alexander Bootie, 24 of the 300 block of Edgehill Drive, will face charges of sexual abuse of children, unlawful contact with a minor, criminal use of a communication facility, and corruption of minors in Lancaster County Court.
West Earl Township Police received a phone call from a Deputy Sheriff in Wright County, Iowa, on March 29, 2023. The Deputy Sheriff advised that a juvenile female reported a male from Akron Borough soliciting images and videos from the juvenile in exchange for Korblox Cash, a payment method for gaming products.
Bootie was identified as a suspect and Detective Josh Mertz recovered conversations between the defendant and juvenile through social media and messaging applications. The conversations included Bootie offering to purchase gaming-related items in exchange for videos and photographs of the juvenile conducting sexual acts.
Detective Mertz filed charges on Nov. 17, 2023, and the defendant turned himself in before posting $50,000 bail.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Bootie is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 23 at 9 a.m.
Assistant District Attorney Jessica Collo is prosecuting the case.
