Update on road conditions in Lancaster City Saturday 01/06/2024.
As of 1300 hrs. snow is still falling steadily and the temperature in hovering just above freezing.
The major arteries are passable and have snow/slush accumulations.
Side streets, higher elevations and streets with hills may be slippery or difficult to travel for vehicles not equipped for inclement weather conditions.
This photo depicts the 500 and 600 blocks of Union Street at New Dorwart Street. Officers were there for a vehicle crash call and found that vehicles were having difficulty on the hills for Union St. and New Dorwart St. Traffic was detoured until plows could pass and lay down salt as well.
Lancaster City Streets did apply a pre-treatment to road surfaces on 01/05/2024. Plows and salt trucks are out and about clearing roadways and putting down salt.
The precipitation is anticipated to change to rain later this afternoon but temperatures are expected to remain in the low to mid 30's.
If you must travel give yourself extra time and drive carefully and give extra space for slowing stopping on slippery road surfaces. If your windshield wipers are on your headlights must be on as well. Make sure your front and rear windshields are free of snow obstructions.
