The Lancaster City Bureau of Police has concluded its investigation into the death of Michael James Owens, an inmate at Lancaster County Prison. After careful examination, it has been determined that the cause of death was attributed to natural causes.
Around 10:00 AM on January 4, 2024, Owens was found unresponsive during a routine check of his cell. Prison staff called 911 while conducting CPR and utilizing an AED until first responders arrived. Lifesaving efforts were continued on Owens, but he remained unresponsive and was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter.
