UPDATE – January 2, 2024

At approximately 10:12 am on Thursday, December 28, 2023, the Hanover Borough Police Department responded to a reported stabbing in the 900 block of E. Walnut Street.

The first arriving officer found a 27 year old Hanover man suffering from a severe laceration on his neck. The victim told a bystander that his father was responsible for the assault and that other family members may be injured inside the residence. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of his wounds and was later released from the hospital.

Officers proceeded to the residence and found the bodies of Dylan Arvizu-Morales, age 17, and Guadalupe Arvizu-Morales, age 49, both deceased, inside the residence. No other people were found inside the residence. It was apparent that both victims had struggled with their attacker during the assaults.

A short while later, officers were notified of a suspicious male subject hiding behind a vehicle to the rear of the 900 block of Broadway. Officers approached the area on foot and located a male subject laying on the ground with numerous stab wounds and lacerations, as well as a bloody knife near his body. Lifesaving measures were started by officers on scene and Hanover Area Fire and Rescue EMS were summoned to assist. The man was transported to the hospital and later succumbed to his injuries. He was identified as Rogelio Arvizu, age 50, who was the husband of Guadalupe and father of Dylan. The police department had been looking for Rogelio in connection with the homicides and assault when located and had obtained an arrest warrant prior to his passing.

The York County Coroner’s Office has ruled the manner of deaths of Dylan and Guadalupe as homicides, while Rogelio’s manner of death has been ruled a suicide.

The investigation has revealed that the homicides and assault on the 27 year old man were acts of domestic violence. Prior to 10:12 am on December 28th, Rogelio confronted and fatally assaulted his son and wife separately within the residence. Just prior to the time of dispatch, the 27 year old victim arrived at the residence and was physically attacked and stabbed by Rogelio. The victim was able to fight back and flee the assault, where he was able to summon the assistance of the bystander to call 911. Rogelio then fled the residence on foot and inflicted mortal wounds upon himself.

The Hanover Borough Police Department wishes to extend our condolences to the friends and relatives of the Arvizu and Morales families during this time of tragedy and loss.

The Hanover Borough Police Department responded to a stabbing incident at approximately 10:12 am today, Thursday, December 28, 2023, in the 900 block of E. Walnut Street. Arriving officers found a 27 year old Hanover man outside of a residence with severe injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of those injuries. The man indicated that other family members were inside the residence. Upon clearing the residence, officers located a 17 year old Hanover juvenile and a 49 year old Hanover woman deceased. A brief time later police found a 50 year old Hanover man laying in the 900 block of Broadway with severe injuries. He was also transported to a local hospital for treatment and later succumbed to injuries. The incident is believed to be isolated to the people listed above and there is no danger to the community. The incident remains under investigation.

The Hanover Borough Police Department was assisted on the scene by the York County Sheriff’s Department, York County Forensics Team, York County Coroners Office, and Hanover Area Fire and Rescue EMS.
