Reasons why not to burn paper in your fireplace:
- Burning pieces of paper can float up the chimney and onto your roof, especially if you don’t have chimney caps properly installed.
- Inks used in gift wrap often contain heavy metals and toxic chemicals that react when heated releasing dangerous fumes and potentially chimney-clogging by-products.
- Paper burns much hotter than wood which creates a higher risk of chimney fires.
- Burning gift wrap creates excessive amounts of ash.
Instead, throw all unwanted items in a recycling bin.
Give first responders a break and save your family's lives by not throwing any paper in your fireplace!
