At 1:03 a.m., March 27, 2016 Detective Sergeant Nathan Nickel was on patrol when he observed a Maroon Nissan Murano in the 100 blk. of S. Queen St. When he pulled behind the Nissan, it accelerated away at a high rate of speed. The Nissan failed to stop for (5) stop signs at Christian St. and Farnum St., Christian St. and Church St., Christian St. and Howard Ave., Christian St. and Locust St. and then Christian St. and North St. The vehicle then stopped on its own in the 400 blk. of North St..
The driver was a 17-year-old male and the front seat passenger was a 16-year-old male, both in violation of the city curfew ordinance. The 16-year-old male was found to be in possession of a Taurus 9mm semi-automatic handgun. This handgun was reported stolen on Dec. 15, 2012. The 16-year-old male was also found to be in possession of 7 grams of crack cocaine and a small amount of marijuana.
Both juveniles and the vehicle were transported to the police station. A second firearm was located in the center console of the vehicle. The second stolen firearm was also a Taurus 9mm, semi-automatic handgun. This handgun was reported stolen on 2/9/2016 in Philadelphia, PA. Additionally, in the same center console detectives located (22) Xanax pills and a small amount of heroin.
The 17-year-old male, a Lancaster City resident, was charged with Firearms Not to be Carried Without a License, Receiving Stolen Property, Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine and Xanax, Criminal Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Deliver Cocaine and Possession of Heroin.
The 16-year-old male, a lancaster Township resident, was charged with Firearms Not to be Carried Without a License, Receiving Stolen Property, Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine, Criminal Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Deliver Cocaine and Possession of a small amount of marijuana.
Both juveniles were committed to the Lancaster County Youth Intervention Center.
These arrests are the 14th and 15th firearms-related arrests by the Lancaster City Police in 2016.
