On July 12, 2023 at 9:35 pm the Oxford Police made contact with Derrick Lowe, 39, of Oxford in the parking lot of the Oxford Police Department. Lowe was reporting to Officers that he had been chased by unknown individuals.  An ambulance was dispatched to confirm that Lowe was not suffering a medical emergency.   Lowe did not want to be evaluated and stated to Officers that he would destroy government property in order to go to jail instead of the hospital. After making the statement, Lowe turned toward a patrol vehicle and began to strike it with his knee and fists, causing over $2000 in damages.  Officers began to struggle with Lowe who eventually was subdued and taken into custody.  During the struggle one of the Officers sustained damage to his body worn camera.  

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for March 5, 2024 at the Oxford District Court.
