Hempfield Township, PA -- Pennsylvania State Police, in cooperation with the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office, filed charged against a New Stanton man accused of breaking into a couple's home and attempting to steal a number of firearms.
State troopers responded to the 1100 block of College Avenue in Hempfield Township on Thursday, September 14, 2023 for a report of an active burglary.
The victims told troopers they noticed an unknown male walking on their driveway toward College Avenue dragging a large plastic storage tote.
Police said the victims confronted the man at which time he left the tote and fled across College Avenue and into a wooded area before he left the area in a maroon pickup truck.
Troopers interviewed the victims who said they noticed the pickup truck parked outside and found boxes of ammunition scattered throughout their basement floor and noticed a gun cabinet empty with numerous firearms missing.
While the victims called police to report the incident, they claim the male was dragging a tote down their driveway toward College Avenue.
Both victims were able to provide a description of the truck and a physical description of the alleged actor before he left the scene.
Through tips and surveillance footage, state troopers were able to track down the truck and the driver of the truck and identified him as Timothy Luchon, 41, of New Stanton.
Shortly after, investigators made contact with Luchon at his New Stanton home where the vehicle described was located near Luchon's home.
Luchon allegedly told police he was attempting to return the tote to the victim's residence at the time of the incident.
Due to a previous conviction, Luchon is not allowed to possess a firearm.
He is charged with burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, criminal trespass, possession of firearm prohibited and obstruction.
Luchon was denied bail and remains in the Westmoreland County Prison.
