Proactive police work is sometimes just stopping by to make sure someone was safe. As was the case recently when an officer encountered a subject in his vehicle in a parking lot at 2:00 pm along Bridge Street. The subject appeared slumped over his steering wheel, and the officer was concerned the subject was involved in a medical emergency. Further investigation revealed that the subject admittingly travelled from Philadelphia to New Cumberland to engage in an illegal activity. During the investigation, it was determined the individual brought along his Springfield Armory .45 pistol, marijuana, and related paraphernalia. Arrested was Branden Smith, 33 years old of the 8200 block of Laurel Road Shipman, VA. Charges: Firearms not to be Carried without a License F-3, Driving Under the Influence, Possession of Marijuana. Smith was arraigned and released on ROR bail.
Yes, it has been very hot in the mid-state and in particular New Cumberland. NCPD received a report of a naked male walking down Bridge Street on Saturday afternoon. Police encountered the individual in the 200 block of 11th Street after the subject had struck a female. Arrested was Tyler Sackett, 33 years old of the 1100 block of Bridge Street New Cumberland. Charges: Simple Assault, Indecent Exposure, and a slew of summary offenses. Sackett was arraigned and bail was set at $25,000. Sacket was remanded to Cumberland County Prison until released by posting bail.
Police responded to the 1100 block of Bridge Street for an active trespasser. The subject had previously been barred from the business and returned to it. While in the establishment, the subject threatened an individual in the establishment, and resisted efforts of law enforcement to quell the situation. Arrested was Joseph Summy, 30 years old of the 900 block of 12th Street New Cumberland. Charges: Terroristic Threats, Resisting Arrest or other Law Enforcement, Criminal Trespass, and additional summary violations. Summy will be sent a summons.
Despite all that, National Night Out was held on Bridge Street last week and was a huge success. Thanks to all that contributed to its success and especially the citizens who attended.
