On May 25, 2023, after deliberating for less than twenty minutes, a Dauphin County jury convicted Jerome Kasey of first degree murder in connection with the November 16, 2021, shooting death of Jeramiah Beamon. The shooting occurred as Beamon, Kasey, and another man walked in the area of Swatara and Evergreen Streets in the Allison Hill section of Harrisburg City. Kasey shot Beamon at least five times, including three times in the head.
Kasey fled Harrisburg the day after the shooting and went to Maryland for approximately four days. Kasey then fled to Lubbock, Texas, where the U.S. Marshals Service captured him in January 2022. The thorough investigation by the Harrisburg Bureau of Police, led by Detective Brian Carriere, allowed police to identify Kasey as the shooter less than twenty four hours after the homicide.
The jury also convicted Kasey of the felony offenses of possession of a firearm by a former felon and carrying a firearm without a license. Judge Scott Arthur Evans set sentencing for June 26, 2023. Chief Deputy District Attorney Jack Canavan and Deputy District Attorney Breese Lantzy prosecuted the case.
