Monessen, PA -- Monessen Police Department, in cooperation with the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office, criminally charged a Monessen woman accused of stabbing another woman in the parking lot of a local store.
Raynelle Mays, 48, was arraigned in front of a magisterial judge on Friday, September 22, 2023, on charges of attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct.
Monessen Police responded to the parking lot of the local Family Dollar for the report of a large fight.
While responding, officers received a call from the hospital and reported to officers that a stabbing victim was being life flighted to a Pittsburgh-area hospital.
After numerous interviews, investigating officers said Mays planned to meet the victim in the Family Dollar parking lot to discuss a relationship issue involving relatives.
Police said witnesses told police a physical altercation ensued and led to Mays allegedly stabbing the victim twice.
The victim suffered two stab wounds to her lung cavity and after being transferred to the hospital was listed in stable condition.
