Greensburg, PA -- Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole W. Ziccarelli announces a guilty but mentally ill plea in the stabbing death of an Arnold woman. 

Brian Rebold, 40, pleaded guilty but mentally ill to a single count of first-degree murder in the death of Diana Rebold last week. 

Arnold Police and Westmoreland County Detective Bureau responded to a deadly stabbing in August of 2024 in the 100 block of Liberty Avenue in Arnold. 

Rebold called 911 to report the stabbing. Several neighbors witnessed the incident and provided statements to officers on scene.

Responding officers found the suspect’s mother, Diana Rebold, lying unresponsive in the street and bleeding profusely from her head.

The victim suffered from multiple stab wounds to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rebold's sentencing will be scheduled in 90 days and carries the mandatory incarceration sentence of life without parole. 

Rebold was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation prior to sentencing. 

The judge will consider whether Rebold is need of psychiatric treatment that would allow him to begin serving the sentence at a secure state hospital before entering the department of corrections.
