On 06/13/2022, at 11:44 A.M. Saugerties Police conducted an investigation into a reported Domestic Dispute that occurred in the Village of Saugerties. The victim reported during the incident, 33-year-old Weston D. Smith, choked the victim multiple times during an argument, Smith further struck the victim in the face and then loaded a shotgun, threatening to shoot the victim. Incidental to their investigation, at 3:30 pm., Smith was arrested and charged with Strangulation in the 2nd Degree, Menacing with a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree and Attempted Assault in the 3rd Degree. Police recovered the shotgun used in the encounter. Smith was processed and Saugerties Police Headquarters and then arraigned in the Village of Saugerties Court Justice. Incidental to his arraignment, Smith was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to return in the Village of Saugerties Court Justice on 07/18/2022, to answer his charges. The Court issued a Full Stay-A-Way Order of protection on behalf of the victim. The Victim was treated by paramedics from DIAZ Ambulance, for injuries she sustained during the attack.
