Firearm in vehicle at EPG High School

On May 17, 2023 El Paso Police School Resource Officer responded to a report of a firearm in a student's vehicle on school property. The student was immediately removed from class and his vehicle was searched where an unloaded hand gun was found in its carrying case. There was no ammunition found in the vehicle, on the student, or in his locker. The hand gun is legally owned by a family member. The student has been removed from school and police and school administration are still in the process of gathering information as to what led the student to have the gun in his vehicle. From the time the school administration received the information, to the time the gun was confiscated by the School Resource Officer was (7) minutes. The student who is under 18 and his parents have been very cooperative. At no time was anyone in danger, and there was never any threat made to anyone. The gun is currently being held in evidence at the El Paso Police Department. This is still an ongoing investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time.
