While officers were conducting a follow up for an unrelated matter, they observed the defendant standing on the sidewalk with an open container of an alcoholic beverage. The defendant was standing with two other subjects at the time. As officers approached to address the violation for the open alcohol, one of the subjects fled from the area. The officer conducted a protective pat down of the defendant and at this time felt what he knew to be the handle of a firearm on the defendant's person. The defendant was secured, and a loaded firearm was recovered. The defendant did not have a valid FOID, nor a CCL issued to him at this time. The defendant was taken into custody and transported to SPD. The Cook County States Attorney, Felony Review Unit, approved charges for one count of AGGRAVTED UNLAWFUL USE OF A WEAPON. The defendant was transported to Bridgeview courthouse for a bond hearing and court date.
