Law enforcement agencies across the nation are seeing an increase in the number of people receiving calls from phone scammers claiming to be law enforcement and Moffat County residents are getting those calls.

Scammers are calling Moffat County citizens with personal data under the guise of law enforcement, they threaten to arrest the person if they do not pay the scammer immediately.  Scammers will “spoof” the law enforcement agency’s telephone number, making it appear as if the call is legitimate.

The Moffat County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind the public to never give personal information or agree to pay anything over the phone and that no law enforcement agency calls to demand money or threaten to arrest.

If you receive a call from someone claiming to be law enforcement demanding you pay money or you will be arrested, hang up and call your local law enforcement agency.
