291.0 Grams of Drugs Seized

291.0 grams of drugs were seized by officers Friday, May 6, 2022, during the execution of a search warrant.

Officers searched the residence and two camper trailers at 1008 Boulevard. During the search, officers located 2.0 grams of methamphetamine, two firearms, two safes, various ammunition, and drug paraphernalia. The items were all taken as evidence.

While officers were conducting the search, a vehicle drove up to the residence. Other officers contacted Shannon Trancoso, Samuel Chavez and Marissa Valdez in the vehicle. Officer Snyder and K9 Jefe conducted a free air sniff on the exterior of the vehicle with K9 Jefe giving a positive alert to the odor of narcotics. Chavez, Trancoso and Valdez were detained while the vehicle was searched.  Trancoso was questioned and released. Valdez was taken into custody for two outstanding warrants.

Officers completed a search of the vehicle and Chavez locating 230.0 grams of methamphetamine, 59.0 grams of fentanyl, and a large amount of cash.

Chavez was taken into custody and placed at the Las Animas County Detention Center. He is charged with unlawful distribution, manufacturing, dispensing, sale or possession, and two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
